So about this Maya Road....

Lots of times at trade shows, ppl will ask where the name of our Company came from. Are we Mayan? No. Did we name it Maya Road for a love of Mayan Culture? Not exactly...

If you look up Maya in the dictionary (and I am about to paraphrase Mr Webster) - the definition of Maya is related to the "Art of creation". Pretty cool huh? But the connotation of Maya Road is much more to Deb and I.

When we were starting this company, one of the toughest things is coming up with a name - esp one that isn't trademarked already(!) So after hours and hours of brainstormin' my sis and I decided to revert to our good old childhood. Back in our time, it was kool to have like clubs between/among friends. And with those clubs came dues, charter letters, etc. Except of course for us, we were so much more nerdy and formal. We had contracts - signed and dated of course. The one attached is like version 3 or 4 b/c we re-did contracts every year with symbols to authenticate letters we would write one anther (one year it was a Voltron symbol and another year it was a Mr T's mohawk symbol). This club consisted of Deb, our friend Judy and myself.

But BEYOND our symbols we also had nicknames for each other. My sister's was May-May (which means little sister in Chinese) and mine was Ya-Ya (a cool name I remember seeing in Vogue) and Judy's was (JuJu-B). So what we did was combine her nickname and mine to come up with "Maya"- we added the word "Road" so that the sense of a journey would be meaningful.

Ah, back to the carefree days of childhood and the importance to us of Maya Road.
